Friday Round Up

I didn’t almost forget to do the round up today, no siree, not me.. Honest! Or something like that *grins*

Biscuits are under threat in England, as American style cookies take over. Would your cup of tea really be the same without a digestive, or a jammie dodger?

Hate carrots? Love bacon? Some clever (insane?) person fried their carrots and declared that not only do they look like bacon but they kind of taste like it too… I can only imagine that that would be the case if they were fried in bacon fat, which is incidentally, a marvellous way of cooking.

The survey was undertaken by trading standards in the UK (lots of English news apparently this week!), but probably happens just as frequently over here. False claims made by restaurants, is that salmon really fresh, is that cake really home-made.. Who knows anymore!

Look out if you’re in Spain next Wednesday. The last Wednesday in August is when 45,000 people have a huge food fight and hurl 250,000lbs of tomatoes at each other. Read about it and other food festivals around the globe.. Personally, I don’t know how anyone can do without their pancake day race *grins*.

Can insects really be nutritious and healthy, one Japanese author believes not only that but that they could be the solution to world hunger.. Apparently spiders are perfect this time of year, I think now is the time for me to go quietly hide in the corner and try and erase that from my mind.

The Observer has created a list of the top 50 cookbooks. 1 through ten won’t be shown until Sunday, but here’s the rest of the list. What would you like to see in the top ten?

Are you a fan of offal? Have you ever tried it? Here are five animal parts that the writer thinks everyone should try. I’m of mixed opinions when it comes to offal, I love liver and kidneys, some other parts squik me out a little, but I’m working on it, when I can.

Finally, an article close to home. The Austin Chronicle asks if free wi-fi is killing the coffee shop culture.. something to think about.
