Friday Round Up

How did it get to be the end of July already, it’s a conspiracy I tell you!

Everyone loves marinading meat in wine, but what about while the animal is still alive? Some Canadians have been feeding their cows red wine and the chefs have been going crazy over it. I’d love to give it a taste and see how different it is.

The snozberries taste like snozberries! Flavoured wallpaper is here… well, almost. We’re one step closer with Flavor Paper’s fruit cocktail collection which is scratch and sniff.

We’re all aware of the debate over school dinners, if you haven’t read Fed Up With Lunch it’s worth a look, a photographic journal of the meals coming out of the school cafeteria. Then this article came out about jail food... Is it possible that inmates are eating better than children in schools?

Which TV chef would you most like to teach you to cook? TV Squad rated a few. I don’t entirely agree, although that could be because I don’t know half of them. I would probably end up with Alton Brown at the top, while Good Eats irritates me he’s very informative and could probably teach you an awful lot about the whys and wherefores as well as the ‘this is how it’s done.’ I’m not sure about sticking Anthony Bourdain down at the bottom either. I would love to cook with him, yes, he’d probably be more of an advanced teacher than the basics.. and sitting down to eat the meal together would be an amazing experience.

I found this fascinating piece on how caffeine affects the brain. There was a lot I didn’t know and it’s a wonderfully interesting article.

Then the Curious Cook talked about using water as a flavour enhancer.. Something I had heard of but not really thought about.

A house made of meat. Sounds awesome but is it all it’s cracked up to be? I’m a little concerned about how it would survive the elements.. Mmm mouldy rotten meat house, yum!

Being a fan of meat, and all things crafty and hand made, the wool butchery tickled me pink! It’s so cute and adorable.
