Austin Bakes For Japan
Austin Bakes for Japan is part of a national movement of bakesales taking place on April 2nd. The goal is to raise $10,000 or more to help the people of Japan and provide emergency relief. 23 cities across the US are hosting fundraisers all on the same day, including Boston, Washington DC, New York, Portland, San Francisco and of course Austin.
All the baked goods are being sold by donation so buyers can pay what they are able to. All funds raised are being sent to AmeriCares.
Austin is doing it’s usual trick of going overboard! Not only are over 80 home cooks donating their time and their cooking, but dozens of local bakeries are sponsoring the event too and sending goodies along!
Of course, with this many people taking part Austin was not content with just one sale, so on April 2nd there will be 5, yes that’s right, 5 sales going on across town.
Downtown: Woof Gang Bakery Austin, 1204 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, 78703 (10-2)
North Central: Foreign & Domestic, 306 E. 53rd Street, Austin, 78751 (10-2)
South: Hotel San Jose, 1316 South Congress Avenue, 78704 (10-2)
East: Nomad Bar, 1213 Corona Drive, Austin, 78723 (10-2)
West: Shops at Mira Vista, 2785 Bee Cave Road, Suites 336 & 341, Austin, 78746 (10-5)
We’ll be at the Downtown location. We haven’t decided what goodies to bring yet, anyone have any suggestions? We’ll also be manning the stall early on. We’d love to stay all day and show our support but April 2nd seems to be a busy day for us! Do come along and say hi to us in the morning though, we’d love to meet you, and of course, sell you something delicious for a good cause.
If you want to help, but can’t make it along to one of the sales then they have a donations page going as well.
To keep up to date on information, you can follow Austin Bakes on Facebook, or on twitter (@austinbakes)
And we really can’t say enough good things about Kathryn of Austin Gastronomist for organising this event!

I’m just sorry we couldn’t stay for longer, Saturday seemed to be the day of everything happening.
We’re working on improving the raspberry marshmallows, they came out too soft and gooey for our liking, we may be trying to improve the recipe to bring along to the swap on Sunday.
